What modules are offered in the essentials to the GDPR training?
The training is presented over 5 separate modules, covering key aspects of the Regulations. The modules are:
- Module 1: Introduction
This module provides an overview of what is covered in this course. This includes looking at the main elements of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) and seeing how it might affect day to day work. Key definitions are also covered applicable to the GDPR. - Module 2: Data Processing
This module will look at the lawful basis for processing data under the GDPR. Key elements that constitutes data processing is covered. This includes:
- Collecting
- Using
- Storing
- Destroying of personal data.
The module ends with a look at the 6 lawful bases for processing personal data provided by the GDPR. These are:
- Consent (Active)
- Contract
- Legal Obligation
- Vital Interest
- Public Task
- Legitimate Interest
- Module 3: Types of Data
This module looks in more detail at what is meant by “personal data” and special categories, auditing and the 7 principles of GDPR. These principles should govern how organisations should treat personal data that is necessary to process. These 7 principles are:
- Fairly, lawfully and transparently processed
- Stated purpose or purpose limitation
- The minimum amount of data needed to complete the purpose
- Accurate and up to date
- Only kept as long as necessary
- Confidential and secure
- Accountability
- Module 4: Data Subjects’ Rights
The module covers the 8 rights provided by the GDPR for individuals, how they can exercise these rights and what the data processor needs to do in response. The 8 rights of individuals whose data has been processed are:
- The right to be informed
- The right of access
- The right to rectification
- The right to erasure (or to be forgotten)
- The right to restrict processing
- The right to data portability
- The right to object
- Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling
- Module 5: Data Breaches
The final module will cover data breaches under the GDPR.
