Why is slips, trips and falls training important?

Slips and trips are one of the most common causes of accidents in the workplace, yet they can be easily prevented in most cases by good housekeeping. Risk assessments should include hazards that may lead to slips and trips, so that they can be controlled.

What modules are offered in this training course?

The training material is presented over four separate modules, covering  key aspects of slips, trips and falls in the workplace.  The modules are:

• Module 1:Serious Facts and the Law
  This module starts with a  brief overview of the course.  It will then cover some basic facts about slips trips and falls and the costs related to these events to the employer.
• Module 2: Slip Hazards: Causes and Controls
  This module looks at the causes and controls of slip hazards in workplace.  Several common slip hazards in the workplace are covered.  The HSE tools for measuring slip risks is covered alongside key controls that can be instigated to reduce the risk of slips in the workplace.
• Module 3: Trip Hazards: Causes and Controls
  This module deals with the causes and controls of trip hazards in workplace.  Examples of trip hazards are also covered. Prevention of trip hazards is covered by focusing on three key areas:  These are:

• • Walkways
  • Housekeeping
  • Design and Maintenance

• Module 4: Management Issues
  This final module deals with aspects of the management of slips and trips.  The concept of a management system for slips and trips in order to identify problem areas and put in appropriate controls is covered.  The training will cover 5 key steps of this management system.  The module will conclude with looking at action planning and the tasks that employees are undertaking (task analysis).  The walkthrough talk through tasks analysis is covered.
