What modules are offered in the training?

The training material is presented over nine separate modules, covering  key aspects of workplace risks within a construction environment. Module 10 provides the steps required to upgrade to the accredited qualification.  The modules are:

  • Module 1: Introduction
    This module provides an overview of the topics covered in this course.
  • Module 2: Hazards, Risks, Assessments and Controls
    This module takes a closer look at critical concepts within health and safety.  Hazards, risks, risk assessment and controls are covered as they relate to a construction environment.
  • Module 3: Slips, Trips, Falls and Working at Height
    This module deals with the basic facts about slips, trips and falls and why it is important to understand and control them, followed by working at height.
  • Module 4: Manual Handling
    There are specific regulations covering the manual handling of loads within the workplace.  This module briefly covers these regulations and looks at the key activities within a construction environment involving manual handling.  These are:
    • Lifting
    • Carrying
    • Lowering
    • Pushing
    • Pulling
    • Pouring
    • Pumping
  • Module 5: Plant, Machinery and Noise
    This module describes the risks posed by plant, machinery and noise and how to deal with them in a way that keeps the workforce safe.
  • Module 6: Respiratory Risks
    This module covers the respiratory risks and the controls that can be applied to keep workers safe.  A key concept will be understanding the cause of respiratory risks.
  • Module 7: Fire, Electricity and Gas Safety
    The hazards that can be caused by fires, electricity and gas and the controls that can be put in place are covered in this module. 
  • Module 8: Chemicals and Other Onsite Hazards
    Chemical hazards in the workplace are covered by the Control of Substances Hazardous (COSHH) Regulations, and this module covers the use of chemicals, how workers can be exposed and the controls that should be considered to keep workers safe.  Other critical hazards within a construction environment are also covered. 
  • Module 9: Vehicles, PPE and General Safety
    The module covers the use of vehicles on site, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and a range of other general safety matters. 
  • Module 10: Your Pathway to Your CSCS Card
    This final module will briefly outline the process required for the online invigilated exam leading to the Green Card application.

Yes, to start applying for a CSCS Green Card, you will need to have completed this course and then the accredited online invigilated exam.

How much is the level 1 health and safety in a construction environment Course + accredited exam?
