Businesses who provide food and drink for others (either by directly handling or serving food) are legally required to ensure they have provided appropriate food safety training to their staff.

With food poisoning being a real risk, it’s important to get food hygiene right. Thankfully, correct food preparation, kitchen hygiene and pest control make it easy to significantly reduce any risks of food contamination. Our food safety courses

Our food safety training courses meet the requirements for demonstrating appropriate training for staff who are involved in handling low-risk or wrapped foods and those who prepare food.

This training also fulfils the requirements to have training that covers the food supply, production and service chains. We have therefore split our training into retail, manufacturing and catering.

Food Safety Course Level 1

This training is suitable for a variety of staff including those new to the area of food safety who have minimal or no experience.

Staff are not involved in the preparation of food and therefore they will be mainly handling food that is already prepared (wrapped) and therefore pose a lower risk. This training is ideal for:

  • Supermarket workers
  • Waiters and waitresses
  • Kitchen porters
  • Warehouse and delivery drivers who are handling food

There is a separate training package for manufacturing, catering and retail employees.

Food Safety Course Level 2

This course is for those who are directly handling, preparing, which could include cooking or manufacturing food. It also includes extra pest control and hygiene lessons. This training is ideal for:

  • Food factories
  • Breweries
  • Abattoirs
  • Schools and hospitals

There is a separate training package for manufacturing, catering and retail employees.

What does the food safety courses include?

Both food safety training levels include the same modules. However, the second level offers more detailed information that’s required by those who will be handling food directly.
The course modules are as follows:

  • Current food safety legislation
  • Hazards from delivery to service
  • Risk control – contamination & its prevention
  • Pest, premises and people
