Why Do I Need This Food Hygiene Certificate Level 1 Training?
If you work in the three main areas (catering, manufacturing, or retail) where food is prepared, made or sold then you must have an understanding of food hygiene and safety principles. This course is specifically for those who ONLY handle food and are NOT involved in its preparation or manufacturing. Examples of workers falling into this category could include:
- Supermarket Workers;
- Waiters and Waitresses;
- Kitchen Porters;
- Pub & Bar Staff;
- Coffee Shop Staff;
- Front of House Employees;
- Warehouse & Delivery Drivers.
Please note: If you handle and prepare food, this is not the course for you, and you should complete the Level 2 food hygiene and safety course.
What Modules are Offered in this Food Hygiene Course?
The training is presented over four separate modules, covering key aspects of food safety. The modules are:
- Module 1: Food Safety Legislation
This module gives an overview of what food safety is and why it is important. It explains the importance of minimising the risks of serious food borne illnesses. A brief overview of the key food safety laws and regulations covering the safe handling, storage and selling of food is covered.
- Module 2: Hazards from Delivery to Service
This module looks at food safety hazards and risks which can arise in the stages from delivering to serving of food. The areas of processing, packaging, delivery, serving and storing of food is covered.
- Module 3: Food Poisoning – Its Controls and Prevention
This module focuses on the important area of food poisoning and several preventative controls that can be put in place to minimise this risk.
- Module 4: Pests, Premises and People
The final module looks at food pests and how they can be controlled. It also covers the important aspect of staff hygiene.
What Will I Get Once You’ve Completed the Course?
Once you have completed the course, you will be able to print off your level 1 food hygiene and safety certificate demonstrating an appropriate level of awareness training. The certificate is embossed with the logos of Gatehouse Awards, Institute of Hospitality, IIRSM & IOSH.

Level 1 training for catering is £15 per person + VAT, which can be ordered from here.
